For almost fifty years Colombian-born artist Fanny Sanín has pursued a unique approach to geometric abstraction. Participating in over 300 exhibitions throughout Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, it is our honour to host Sanín’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Getty’s initiative Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. To introduce the artist to our West Coast audience we are pleased to present a survey exhibition that begins with an abstract expressionist painting (Oil No. 4, 1967), which Sanín made in London, and concludes with an acrylic painting on paper (Composition No. 1, 2017) created this year in New York, where she has lived since 1971. Hallmarks of her career are well represented, including an early minimal work (Acrylic No. 9, 1970), and one of the first paintings in which symmetry emerges (Acrylic No. 2, 1974), together with paintings that exemplify the sophisticated evolution of form and colour that she developed during the decades that followed.
